THE COTTON Gum (Nyssa aquatica, Marsh) is a huge trunked, tall swamp tree, whose superb dome is covered in early spring with a coating of cottony down on the young growth. Later the leaf linings only remain white. The purple fruits are lost among the scarlet leaves.
