Subversive for Subtle Available

Subversive ScreenshotWhen we created Subtle, we wanted to be able to easily change the look and feel while maintaining the functionalityof the original theme. To allow for this we added Theme Styles - a sort of sub-theme structure to make adding your own content easy while keeping the upgrade process intact. If you haven’t tried out Theme Styles, download version 0.2 of Subtle and give it a try.

To show off this feature, I’m putting out for public release a Theme Style called Subversive for Glued Ideas Subtle that I built for a friend of mine. To install it, just unzip the archive and copy the whole folder into your /gluedideas_subtle/styles/ folder. Then go into your Current Theme Options and select the Theme Style you installed and hit “Save.” Reload your site in your browser and see the difference.

Some people have already figured out that it’s possible to create completely new looks for Subtle, and we’re already putting together a gallery of sites we think show off the best of what’s out there. If you’re interested in having your site listed in our gallery, let us know and we’ll check out what you’ve got.

In other news, it looks like we’ll be breaking 1000 downloads in one week for Subtle. Not too bad.

[...] My buddy, Chris, over at Glued Ideas has created a glorious theme called “subtle” free for all wordpress users. Built into Subtle is an easy way to switch styles, to show the potential of this feature (and because he likes me) he powered out a style all my own called “subversive” (but you can use it too). Named after one of my favorite topics of discussion as you all well know. In the next week or so we will be adding logos, customizing it some more and what not so bear with me. [...]

Hey, awesome job dude and hope I can use this to implement some AJAX!

Would very much like to see more variations on the theme.

Ron - I’ve never been a huge fan of live-search or inline comment preview, but if you suggest something cool, it might get into the theme.

Rob - expect some “official” Theme Styles to get released in the next fex weeks as well as some from the community. If people have Style Themes they’ve created that they’d like to share, we’ll be glad to post a link to a download.

So, what your next project going to be?

Hey, you should check out BloxPress 2.0 and it would be cool if we can use this theme to be able to drag and drop similar to netvibes, although its probably a lot of work.

Anyway, keep up the good work dude…

A truly remarkable theme. You guys have truly gone the extra mile with this theme. I love the concept of “styles” and particularly happy to see that you are well on your way to building a community. You can count me in.

[...] I’ve recently deployed a new theme to my RedHaven-IS.com web site.  Until I’m ready to go live with my hosting and development business, I’m using RedHaven-IS.com as a sandbox for new themes, plugins, and widgets.  The current toy I’m playing with is a fantastic new theme from Glued Ideas called Subtle.  The theme features lots of subtle features that fly just under the radar in their… uhh.. subtlety, but collectively make for a look and feel that is anything but subtle in its beauty. [...]

Ron - been looking at BloxPress - it’s a cool idea. Sort of Mambo meets WordPress. Personally, I really like the way Widgets do much of the same thing but with lower overhead. I’ll have to install a copy of BloxPress on my dev install to see how what it does that’s really special.

Don - Thanks! I’m excited to see what other people put together for styles. Already I’m seeing some amazing work out there that I hope to showcase here.

Hey, this might be a dumb question, but how do you limit post view in front page. Couldn’t figure out the code anywhere in the post php. or where ever its at.

Thanks.

P.S. Email me the code or you could post it here if someone else want to know too.

Great theme!

Type your comment here.Never mind, I just figure it out already.

I really hate asking for something that I know is quite simple, but I just cannot seem to get a good header out of the upload feature. I tried the upload feature with this image, but ended up with the header you see here.

I also tried playing around with the PSD file, but I quickly became confused with all the layers. Any tips or hints?

Don - There are two possibilities for what’s going on:

1) Your host doesn’t have GD for PHP enabled, which means the system can’t build the header. Right now I check for that, but I don’t have an error message. I’ll add that to my bugfix list.

2) Your header.jpg and header_menu.jpg files aren’t writable. The system checks for this too, but doesn’t give you an error message, which it should. Again - added to the bugfix list.

Now that makes absolute sense. I’m fairly certain that GD is installed, but I’ll look in to regardless.

Amazing theme! But i cant figure out how to add a/my blogroll to the home page on my blog.

Hi!
Thanks for absolutely great theme!
But I have a question. How can I activate “information box”? Is it a widget? Sorry if someone asked it before.

Elessar - the best way to add the Blogroll is to install the widgets plugin - blogroll is built into it.

Daniyar - The information box will appear when you go to Current Theme Options and typing in a site description. It’s automatic.

I assume the subversive style is missing it’s zip contents because of the bump to 0.31? I wnated a darker looking style and subversive fit the bill. Can you look @ http://blog.gluedideas.com/wp-content/uploads/Subversive.zip

guys, what happened to subversive dark theme for subtle? it doesnt works the link. it goes to another page. :(

Adrian and Paris - Check the Subtle 0.21 download page for the current link.

[...] Update: Original theme designed by Chris, this particular instance of this theme courtesy of C. Wess Daniels. [...]

[...] Besides the fact that Subtle is too complex for me to use/modify by my own stupid myself I find myself missing several features of unsleepable like the bottom block and the delicious links. Oh, I shouldn’t neglect to say that I was in fact a major *#!@-head for not attributing Adam (as he pointed out) for that sweet grassy-looking header image I used on that previous theme you saw up yesterday. Yeah, even us Christians can be *#!@-heads sometimes. I’ve apologized to Adam because I was wrong. And I’ve taken down that theme because even though C. Wess said he was alright with me using it…I wasn’t alright with it. [...]

Love the theme. Great job.

Kevin - sounds like a good idea. I’ll download it when I get back and try playing with it. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, can anyone give a hint?I downloaded the zip file and uploaded the folder gluedideas_subtle to /wp-theme/, when I went to active theme in admin panel, it didn´t work.
I found there is another gluedideas_subtle folder inside the gluedideas_subtle after upzipping the zip file and all the attrubites of the files in fold are set as 600, is this supposed to be?
Any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

That second gluedideas_subtle directory is extraneous. I deleted it.

You want your folder structure to look like this and you should be fine:

~root/wp-content/themes/gluedideas_subtle

In that directory the only subdirs I have are /assets and /styles

note: i’m using using wordpress 2.04

Again, I’d make sure you’re placing the theme in the correct path and also feel free to delete that extra sub directory.

Something very strange is happening. Firstly, the preview image doesn’t show up on my Presentation page. Even more serious, however, is that the theme produces just a white page with now .css to speak of. Just white, block content text and blue links.

I have “Lightbox 2.0 Plugin” but in this theme doesn’t work :(. Any idea for how to fix it?

Is it just me or is the link for Subversive isn’t working right now?

The link isn’t working :(
