Subtle for WordPress

lmao, yeah I know it’s bad form. I did the same thing. I figured that I’d rather find out sooner rather than later if I had a problem. You’re so right about the Add Media and Galley Functions being impressive in 2.5, tho getting used to the UI is the biggest challenge.

From everything I’ve read on the WP development forums, most of the work on 2.5 was on the backend UI. I could be wrong, but it seems as tho everything which was compatible with 2.3+ works with 2.5

The other incredibly cool thing with 2.5 is the automatic plugin update and install. I had an out of date plugin, and did a one click update and install which simply blew me away. It was over and done with in less than 30 seconds! Downloaded, unzipped, installed, reactivated.

All in all 2.5 seems like a good release.

@Auric – I checked the site and it seems to be working correctly. Did you find a fix for it?

No, actually online I was still using WP 2.4. But I have a copy on my local machine, on which I first perform any update, in case something goes wrong. That’s the point where I saw the error (and a blank page in my browser)
In the meantime, I switched bermione.be to WP 2.5 too, but with another theme, until I found what’s wrong or until a new version of subtle works again

I tried to activate the theme online and… it just works…
So I’m going to investigate what’s the difference between my local computer and the online server…

Hello! I’ve just installed the theme for wordpress 2.5, and I tried to add the Spanish translation attached to the theme… but it doesn’t seem to work.

I’ve es_ES con the wp_config, and I erased the rest of the languages from the /content/themes/glued/languages/ …but I don’t see any change.

Any sugestion? Thanks!!

@Jamfris – Have you had success getting WordPress set to work with Spanish in other themes?

Hey, I believe my problem is also a function of upgrading to 2.5 but I’m really not sure. After upgrading to 2.5 with this theme only (Subtle 0.42) all subsequent comments go to only one post. It does not matter which post the comments are entered in, they all wind up in one particular post. I have tested this with other themes and do not have this issue. Any advice or direction would be most appreciated.

David – it’s your plugins, actually. Remove your plugins from the “single” page and you’ll find that new comments will be posted correctly.

The issue is related to plugins like “Recent Posts” and anything else that brings up a list of posts other than the current one. These plugins are behaving badly and overwriting the information for the current page, so all of your comments end up going to the last post in the list.

I’d remove the option for plugins on the single page, but there are a bunch of instances where it makes sense to use them.

Let me know if this fixes things for you.

Thanks much for your quick response. I really like your template and it works well for us. Can you explain what you mean by “single page”?

Stragely enough, I thought I had removed plugins early on as a test and saw no improvement. But honestly, I’ve done so many things I’m not totally sure of what I did when. However, with that said, here are a couple of facts for my current status. I changed to a different template that did not exhibit the problem and customized it to fit my needs. It was not as nice as yours but I was going to use it even as a temporary fix. Once I got it running, I went directly into MySQL to move comments to the right posts. I did all that, verified that the comments were connected to the right posts, tested a couple of new ones, etc. Then, I saw your response, I turned your template back on and the problem seems to be gone there as well. I have entered test comments into several posts with no failures. I will continue to monitor this and keep you posted if I learn anything or have future difficulties.

The new release especially at the admin backend are more user friendly, as I notice a slight improvement in speed, or that was just me.

The plugin update is cool, and editing postings are much easier than before.

@Faizi – The plugin update is fantastic. I’ve been impressed, now that I’ve figured out where things are.

I love your themes and appreciate that you’ve put them out there. I too had the problem that David complained about (comments going to the wrong post). you mentioned that it was plugins causing the grief, but yet I didn’t have any plugins – I used the Recent Comments and Recent Posts that seems to come with WP by default. I’d think its highly unlikely (although not impossible) that the WP team is doing something wrong in their own code. Removing those widgets from the single page does correct the problem, but I wonder if there’s not a better way. I’d really love to have those widgets enabled on my single post pages. Any thoughts? (I’m running 2.6)

@Scott – There’s “wrong” and then there’s “Wrong” and in this case we’re talking about the former, which basically amounts to a disagreement about how to handle data in your application. In this case, their widgets overwrite information that was requested earlier in the page. My guess is that they did this to make coding easier, but it does have consequences and one of those consequences is the inability to use their widgets between your main post and comments.
