CYPERACEIE, the sedge tribe, a natural order of plants, found from the arctic to the antarctic circle, in marshes, ditches, and running streams, in meadows, on heaths, in groves and forests, on the sea-shore, and on mountain summits, wherever plimnogamorous plants can exist. In Griffiths' Herbarium are 345 species of Indian Cyperaceaa, collected from the Himalaya to Mergui. The most useful of the tribe are species of Cyperus, Euphorium, and Papyrus, q.v.
