11. Nerile, the most south-western part of Swen-Rike, is composed of a portion of the region of mines, and of another belonging to the central agricultural region. It has mince of iron, copper, cobalt, alum, brimstone, and vitrioL It forms o. Orebro-Liin. The chief town, Orebro, is built near the western extremity of Lake !Belmar, and is one of the most commercial places In tile interior of Sweden: the mining districts north of the town bring their produce to this town, and take in return corn, and manu factured articles and foreign goods, which are brought to Orebro by Lake Millar and the Arboga CaoaL The population exceeds 4000. Woollen-etuffs, wax-cloth, and arms are manufactured.

12. SOdermaniand,or Sudermania, comprehends the country between the Kolmoren ridge on the south, and the lakes Hielmar and bliilar on the north ; and contains the beat part of the central agricultural region. It has some mines of iron, and marble of good quality is worked in the Kolmoren range. The western part of this province forma Nykopings-Liin, and the eastern, which is much smaller, constitutes a part of Stockholms-Lin.

p. Nykiipings-Lin has for its chief town Nykoping, which is built at the Innermost recess of a short inlet of the Bettie, forming a harbour, which admits small vessels. It has some manufaetures of woollens, linen, silk, tobacco, stockings, pins, paper, and brass ware. Cannons aro also cast. It exports iron, timber, and braes : the popu lation is 3000. Zkilstuna, situated between lakes Hielmar and is the most Important manufacturing place in Sweden for iron. Arms and cutlery are made to some extent. There is also a copper-work. It is a thriving place, and contains above 2500 inhabitants.

13. Upland extends from the northern shores of Lake Midar to the banks of the 1/1/, along the Baltic, and about GO miles inland. It comprehends the largest portion of the central agricultural region, and has siso considerable iron-mines, among which are those of the mines of Danemora. Upland is divided into two nearly equal parts, of which the western forms Upsala-Lan, and the eastern belongs to Stockholms-Llin.

q. Stookbolms-lAn comprehends the eastern half of Upland, and also the eastern districts of Sedermatiland. it is named from STOCK noLm, the capital of the kingdom.*Siklerts/je, a small town with 1100 inhabitants, lies 1V.S.W. of Stockholm, on the tilidertelje Canal : it has some commerce in provlsiona, and Is famous for its biscuits.

Orestrand, near the northern extremity of the bin, has a good memo, in which the produce of the iron-mines of Danemom is hipped to England ; the population is about 700.

r. Upsala-Lan has for its chief town UrsaLa.

14. restmanland, west of Upland and east of Nerike, eontaina mall part of the central agricultural region, and a larger part of the nion of mines. At Sala there aro the richest silver-mtnes in Sweden. there are also copper- and lead-reifies, but the iron-mines are the nowt important. This province forme Weeteras.Llin.

a. Wester:is-Lan has obtained that name from its capital, lrestertis, shich Is built on an arm of Lake Millar, and carries on a consider ible commerce in iron. It has a red brick gothic cathedral which latex from the 11th century, an old castle, 3500 inhabitants, and manufactories of tobacco and some dye-houses. Sala, N. of Weateriis, has 3000 inhabitants; in its vicinity are the silver-mines. Arboga, an the river Arbogn, which begins to be navigable for river-boats at that place, has some commerce in iron and grain, and 3000 inhabitants.

15. Dalarne, or Daleearlia, lies entirely within the Region of the Mines, with the exception of the northern part, which belongs to the southern mountain region. fliateeanuesj It constitutes; Falu-Liin.

t. Falu-LKn contains FALON and Iledemora, a email town situated in a fertile district, with above 1000 inhabitauts.

III. Norr/and extends over the three mountain regions, with the exception of n part of the southern, which is included in Dalccarlia, and forms part of Swca-ltiko. It is composed of eight provinces, which form five bins.

16. Gestrikland is situated within the region of tho mines, of which it constitutes the most north-eastern portion.

17. lielsingland, N. of Gestrikland, is within the southern mountain region.

u. Gefle-Liin is composed of Gestrikland and Helaingland, and has rich iron-mines which yield an annual produce of more than 9000 tone. A great deal of linen is manufactured. the capital, is built ou small inlet of the Gulf of Bothnia, which forms a good harbour. It is one of the best-built towns of Sweden, and has 8200 inhabitants. The commerce is considerable. The exports consist of iron, timber, tar, flax, and linens ; and the imports principally of corn and salt. Many vessels tire built. Soderhamn, at the extremity of a narrow inlet of the Gulf of Bothnia, has 1629 inhabitant., and exports butter, flax, and linens.
