AALEN, a town in Wurttemberg, Germany, situated on the Kocher, a tributary of the Neckar, at the foot of the Swabian Alps, about som. E. of Stuttgart. Pop. (1933) 12,703. Woollen and linen goods and ribbons are manufactured, and there are tanneries and large iron works. Aalen was a free imperial city from 136o to 1802, when it was annexed to Wurttemberg.
