ACQUI, city and episcopal see, province of Alessandria, Italy; from the town of that name it is aim. S.S.W. by rail. Pop. (1931) 13,449 (town), 18,975 (commune). Its warm sulphur springs were already famous as Aquae Statiellae in Roman times. Part of the ancient bath establishment has been found ; and south of the town are lofty arches of the aqueduct which supplied it. The place was connected by road with Alba Pompeia and Augusta Taurinorum. The town possesses a fine Gothic cathedral.
