ADDAX, a genus of antelopes, with one species (A. nasoma culatus) from North Africa and Arabia. It is 3 ft. high, yellowish white in colour, with a brown mane and fringe on the throat. Both sexes carry horns, which are ringed and form an open spiral. The addax is a desert antelope. It is hunted by the Arabs for its flesh and to test the speed of their horses and greyhounds.
