ADJUNCT, that which is joined on to another, not an essen-, tial part, and inferior to it in mind or function, but nevertheless amplifying or modifying it. (Lat. ad, to, jungere, to join.) Adverbs and adjectives are adjuncts to the words they qualify. Twelve members of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris are called "adjuncts."
