ADONI, a town of British India, in the Bellary district of Madras, 307m. from Madras by rail. Pop. (1931) 35,635. It has manufactures of carpets, silk and cotton goods, factories for gin ning and pressing cotton and a considerable trade in cotton. The hill-fort above, now in ruins, was a seat of government frequently mentioned in 18th century wars.
