AERIAL, an elevated wire or group of wires forming the principal part of a radio antenna of the open or "condenser" type. (See ANTENNA.) An aerial for the reception of programmes from broadcasting stations may consist of a single horizontal wire about 75 or 1 ooft. long and elevated about 3o to soft. from the ground. From the aerial, the lead-in wire connects to the receiving set.
