ALAPAEVSK, a town in Uralsk Area of Russian S.F.S.R. Its population was 12,151 (1926). Lat. 5 7 ° 49' N. Long., 61 ° 4o' E. It was known for its copper as long ago as 1704, and is in the copper and iron mining area. Since it was linked by rail with Sverdlovsk and Nizhni-Tagil, its importance has greatly increased.
