ALBERT, also named ALEXANDRE MARTIN (1815-1895), the first industrial working-man to enter a government, was a mem ber of the French Provisional Republican Government in Feb. 1848. He signed all decrees "ALBERT, ouvrier," and followed implicitly the guidance of Louis Blanc (q.v.). He was sentenced to ten years' deportation on political grounds in 1849. On his release he secured employment as a gasworker.
