ALDINE PRESS, the printing office started by Aldus Manu tius at the end of the I 5th century in Venice, from which were is sued the celebrated Aldine editions of the classics of that time. (See MANUTIUS.) The Aldine Press is famous in the history of typography (q.v.), among other things, for the introduction of italics.
