ALVA, municipal burgh, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, 3 +m. N. of Alloa, terminus of a branch line of the L.N.E.R. Pop. 4,853. It is situated at the foot of three front peaks of the Ochils—West Hill (1,682ft.), Middle Hill (I,436ft.) and Wood Hill (1,723ft.). There are spinning-mills, and also manufactures of tweeds, tartans and other woollen goods. Silver, lead and other metals have been found in the hills, in small quantities.
