AMRUM or AMROM, a German island in the North sea, off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein, south of Sylt. Pop. (1925) 858. It is 6m. long and 3m. broad, with an area of Iolsq.m., and is reached from the mainland by a regular steamboat service to Wittdiin; or at low water from Far. Amrum consists of a tree less sandy expanse, but a fringe of rich marshes affords good pasture-land. The principal place is Nebel, connected by a light railway with Wittdun.
