AMYL ACETATE, a colourless, neutral, mobile liquid re sembling jargonelle pears in odour. Hence its use as an essence in the manufacture of "peardrops." Owing to its solvent action in cellulose, cellulose esters (q.v.) etc., it is also used in photography, in the celluloid and varnish industries, in the preparation of "dope" for aeroplane construction, etc. Its chemical formula is (See also ACETIC ACID.)
