ADAMS, ANDREW LEITH (T827-1882), Scottish natu ralist and palaeontologist. An army surgeon, he studied natural history in India and Kashmir, in Egypt, Malta, Gibraltar and Canada; and his observations on the fossil vertebrata of the Maltese Islands made him a recognized authority on fossil elephants.
