AFZELIUS, ARVID AUGUST Swedish poet, historian and mythologist. From 1828 till his death he was parish priest of Enkoping. He collaborated with the learned his torian, Erik Gustaf Geijer, in the great collection of Swedish f olk songs, Svenska folkvisor f ran f orntiden (1814-1 6) . He published also translations of the Samunder Edda and Herwara-Saga and a history of Sweden to Charles XII. (of which a German transla tion was published in 1842), as well as original poems.
