AMBROSE (AMBROISE), AUTPERT (d. 778), French Benedictine monk. He became abbe of St. Vincent on the Vol turno "in the time of Desiderius, king of the Lombards." He wrote commentaries on the Apocalypse (see Bibl. Patrum, xiii. 403), on the Psalms, on the Song of Solomon; Lives of SS. Paldo, Tuto and Vaso (according to Mabillon) ; Assumption of the Vir gin; Combat between the Virtues and the Vices.
