ALBERTI, DOMENICO (c. 1710-1740), Italian musician, achieved unawares something like immortality in musical history as the writer of dozens of sonatas in which the melody is sup ported from beginning to end by an extremely familiar, but now adays little-esteemed, formula of arpeggio accompaniment, con sequently known as the Alberti bass.
