ABERCORN, JAMES HAMILTON, 2ND DUKE OF (1838-1913), British politician, born on Aug. 24, 1838, succeeded his father, the 1st Duke, in 1885. His sister, the Duchess of Buccleuch, was for many years mistress of the robes to Queen Victoria and to Queen Alexandra. The duke became a member of the house hold of the Prince of Wales (afterwards Edward VII.). He was a strong supporter of the Unionist Party in the House of Lords, and was chairman of the British South Africa Company. He died in London on Jan. 3, 1913.
