ADVANTAGE, MECHANICAL. Mechanical advantage is obtained by using a machine which exerts a force greater than the force applied, and is expressed by the ratio force obtained force applied "Machine" is here used in its widest sense, the simplest form be ing the lever. (See MECHANICS.)
