AALI, MEHEMET, PASHA ( I 815-1871), Turkish statesman, was born at Constantinople, the son of a government official. He was ambassador in London and then foreign minister under Reshid Pasha. He took part in the congress of Vienna (1855) and in the congress of Paris (1856), and was five times grand vizier. Aali Pasha was one of the most zealous advocates of the introduction of Western reforms under the Sultans Abdul Mejid and Abdul-Aziz. He died at Erenkoi in Asia Minor on Sept. 6, 1871.
