ABRAHAM, WILLIAM British Labour poli tician of the old school, was born in the Afon valley and went to work in a coal mine at the age of nine. He was affectionately known by the name of Mabon, a name originally adopted by him in Eisteddfod competitions. President of the South Wales Miners' Federation, he was a power in South Wales, and he remained a respected figure to the end. He sat in the House of Commons for Rhondda from 1885 to 192o, and died on May 14, 1922.
