GAWLER, a town of Gawler county, South Australia, on the Para river, 244 m. by rail N.E. of Adelaide. It is one of the most thriving places in the colony, being the centre of a large wheat growing district ; it has also engineering works, foundries, flour mills, breweries and saw-mills, while gold, silver, copper and lead are found in the neighbouring hills.
