GATTY, MARGARET (I 873 ), English writer, daughter of the Rev. Alexander Scott (1768-184o), chaplain to Nelson, was born at Burnham, Essex, and married in 1839 the Rev. Alfred Gatty, vicar of Ecclesfield, near Sheffield. Mrs. Gatty is remembered for her many admirable books for children, the most famous of which is the Parables from Nature (5 vols. As "Aunt Judy" of Aunt Judy's Magazine she became the personal friend of thousands of her child readers and corre spondents.
