INGRAM, JAMES English antiquarian and Anglo-Saxon scholar, was born near Salisbury on Dec. 21, 1774. From 1803 to 18o8 he was professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, and in 1824 was made president of Trinity college and D.D. He was the pre-eminent Anglo-Saxon scholar of his time. He died on Sept. 5, 1850. He published an edition of the Saxon Chronicle (1823) , Memorials of Oxford (183 2-3 7) ; and The Church in the Middle Centuries (1842).
