ISHTIB (Shtip), town, south Serbia, Yugoslavia. Pop. (1931) 12,080. There are several mosques, a bazaar and a number of fountains. Wheat and the poppy are cultivated and there is a vegetable oil factory in the town. During the World War Ishtib was an important military centre, and a railway was constructed to Veles. There is lignite in the district, also some hot mineral springs.
