ITALO-CELTIC. In many important respects the Celtic languages (q.v.) resemble the Italic languages (q.v.) so closely that it has been proposed to group them together as a unit group of the Indo-European family. When historical evidence became available, differentiation had progressed so far that, while an earlier unity is permissible, they should be kept separate. Ligurian
