Jagersfontein

JAGERSFONTEIN, a town in South Africa, 42' S., 25° 25' E. White pop. (1931) 1,723; native (1921) The town is situated about 4,500 ft. above sea-level, and owes its existence to the most important diamond mine in the Orange Free State. The mine was originated in 187o, and produces stones of fine quality. Here were found the "Excelsior" (971 carats), and the "Jubilee." (See DIAMOND.)
