Jaora

JAORA, an Indian State in the Malwa agency, Central India. It consists of two isolated tracts, between Ratlam and Neemuch. Area, with the dependencies of Piplauda and Pant Piplauda, 602 sq.m. Pop. (1931), 100,166. The chief, whose title is nawab and who enjoys a salute of 13 guns, is a Mohammedan of Afghan descent. The state was confirmed by the British government in

1818 by the Treaty of Mandsaur. The chief crops are millet, cotton and maize. The town of JAORA is on the Rajputana-Malwa railway, 20 m. N. of Ratlam. Pop. (1931), 20,998. It is well laid out, with many good modern buildings.
