ANTWERP, the most northern of the nine provinces of Belgium, conterminous with the Dutch frontier on the north. Malines, Lierre and Turnhout are among its towns, but the chief one is the commercial metropolis of Belgium. It is divided into districts (arrondissements), viz., Antwerp, Malines, Lierre, Turn hout and Boom. These are subdivided into 23 cantons and communes. Area 7o7,932ac., or i,io6sq. miles. Pop. (1930) 1, 173,363, or 1,061 per sq. mile.
