APOLDA, a town in Saxe-Weimar, Germany, 9m. E.N.E. of Weimar. Pop. 27,834. Christian Zimmermann (1759— 1842) introduced hosiery and cloth manufacture and the town has an important wool and silk industry. It has also dye-works, bell foundries and manufactures of engines, bicycles, cardboard and food products. It also trades in grain, leather, horses and cattle, and in woollen yarn.
