ARACHOSIA, a far eastern province of the Persian empire and that of Alexander. It was early lost by the Seleucids and be came part of the rising Parthian empire. It lay north of Gedrosia (Baluchistan) and occupied the southern portion of Afghanistan (q.v.). Its chief town was Alexandria Arachosiorum. (See also PERSIA, Ancient History.)
