ASSESSMENT, a demand or call made by a corporation upon stockholders for a specified sum of money per share of stock in addition to that already paid in. Such assessments are generally made when the company is financially embarrassed and it is a question of the stockholders meeting the assessment or the com pany becoming insolvent. Reorganizations of corporations fre quently involve the placing of an assessment on the stockholders and sometimes even upon bondholders.
