ATMOLYSIS, a term invented by Thomas Graham to denote the separation of a mixture of gases by taking advantage of their different rates of diffusion through a porous septum or diaphragm. It is derived from Gr. aruos, vapour : and Ximtv, to loosen. (See DIFFUSION.)
