BABY BLUE EYES (Nemopliila Menziesii), a small North American plant of the water-leaf family, Hydropliyllaceae, one of the most popular wild flowers of California, native to moist places in valleys and mountains. It is a low usually diffuse an nual, with stems 6 in. to 18 in. long, minutely hairy divided leaves and basin-shaped light to deep blue flowers, in. to 12 in. across, often veined with purple and dotted toward the centre. In mild climates it is often cultivated as a border plant, blossoming from early spring to late summer. (See NEMOPHILA.)
