BACHELLER, IRVING ADDISON ), Ameri can novelist, was born in Pierpont, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1859. He graduated at St. Lawrence university, Canton, N.Y., in 1882 and entered journalism, serving from 1898 to 1 goo as an editor of the New York World. He became known as a writer of fiction and among his numerous productions in this field Eben Holden (1900) and D'ri and I (I 90I) were well received as popular interpreta tions of American character.

His writings include also Darrel of the Blessed Isles (19o3), Vergilius (1904), Silas Strong (1906), The Hand Made Gentleman (19o9), The Master (191o), Keeping Up with Lizzie (i91i), (1912), The Turning of Griggsby (1913), The Light in the Clearing (1917), Keeping Up with William (1918), A Man for the Ages (1919), The Prodigal Village (1920), In the Days of Poor Richard (1922), The Scudders (1923), and Father Abraham (1925).
