ANSDELL, RICHARD (1815-1885), English painter, was born in Liverpool. He was a popular painter of genre, chiefly animal and sporting pictures. His "Stag at Bay" (1146), "The Combat" (1847), and "Battle of the Standard" (1848), represent his best work.
