WARWICK, a town of Kent county, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Pop. (192o) 13,481 (22% foreign-born white) and 23,196 in 193o Federal census. It embraces several manufacturing villages and summer resorts. Warwick was settled in 1643 by Samuel Gorton (q.v.). In 1647 the settlement entered into a union with Providence, Newport and Portsmouth under the Warwick (or Williams) charter of 1644. Warwick was the birthplace of Gen. Nathanael Greene.
