BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT, a tract em bracing about 34 sq. m. in the north central part of New Mexico, U.S.A. It became a Government reservation in 1916 and is admin istered by the department of agriculture. It is the site of a great number of prehistoric artificial caves, immense cliff dwellings, stone sculptures and other evidences of the vanished civilization of the American South-west.
