BANTIN or BANTING, the wild ox of Java, Bibos son daicus. The white patch on the rump distinguishes the bantin from its ally the gaur (q.v.). Adult bulls of the bantin are com pletely black except for the white rump and legs, but the cows and young are rufous. In Burma the species is represented by the tsaine, in which the bulls are rufous fawn. (See BovIDAE.)
