BAROTAC NUEVO, a municipality (with administration centre and 20 barrios or districts) of the province of Iloilo, Panay, Philippine Islands, near the Jalaur river, above its mouth on the south-east coast, and about 15m. N.E. of Iloilo, the capital. Pop. (1918), 13,299, of whom 6,590 were males and three whites. The town lies in a fertile district and deals in rice, sugar, trepang and ping. In 1918, it had 18 sugar mills, with output valued at I o0,40o pesos, besides 325 household industry establishments with output valued at 55,30o pesos. Of its nine schools, six were public. The language is Panay-Bisayan.

iloilo
