BELLBIRD, the name of a species of the genus Chas morhynchus and especially of C. niveus, the male of which carries a long, fleshy, erectile appendage ornamented with short white feathers on the forehead. The name is derived from the note. C. tricarunculatus carries three wattles, one at each angle, and one at the base, of the beak. The bell-birds belong to the tropical American family Cotingidae.
