BERJA, a town of southern Spain, in the province of Al meria. Pop. (193o), 11,333. Despite the lack of a railway Berja has a considerable trade. The lead of the Sierra de Gador mines, which seem to be now exhausted, was until recently sent from here by road to Adra (1 om.) for export, and the town is also a collecting centre for ore produce of the sheltered valleys of the Sierras.
