BARUCH, BERNARD MANNES (18 7 o— ), Amer ican financier, was born in Camden (S.C.), Aug. 1g, 187o. For many years he was a member of the New York Stock Ex change. In 1916 he was appointed a member of the advisory committee of the Council of National Defence, and subsequently became chairman of the committee on raw materials, minerals and metals, and of the war industries board. In 1919 he became a member of the Supreme Economic Council of the Peace Con ference in Paris, and in the same year was appointed by Presi dent Wilson a member of the industrial conference in Washing ton. He wrote The Making of the Reparation and Economic Sections of the Treaty (1920) and articles for the Encyclopedia Britannica.
