BERTINORO, episcopal see, Emilia, Italy, province of Forli, 8m. S.E. direct of Forli and 5 3m. S. of the station of Forlimpop oli, and 800f t. above sea-level. Pop. (1931) town, 3,922, commune 8,973. On the Apennine foothills, it commands a good view towards the lower Po, and its castle built by Barbarossa stood frequent sieges. Polenta, 2 2m. to the south of it, was the birthplace of Francesca da Rimini. The castle is almost entirely ruined, but the Lombard church of S. Donato, with Byzantine capitals, is inter esting.
