BEUDANT, FRANcOIS SULPICE French mineralogist and geologist, was born at Paris on Sept. 5, 1787. In 1817 he published a paper on the phenomena of the crystallization of minerals. In 1818 he was sent by the French Government on a geological journey through Hungary, and his Voyage mingiralogique et gsologique en Hongrie (with atlas, 1822) established for him a European reputation. In 182o he was appointed to the professor ship of mineralogy in the Paris faculty of sciences, and afterwards became inspector-general of the university. He subsequently published treatises on physics and on mineralogy and geology, and died on Dec. Io, 185o.
