BIAXIAL CRYSTAL, a crystal having two optic axes, i.e., two directions within the crystal in which the ordinary and extra ordinary rays of light are propagated with the same velocity; e.g., aragonite is a biaxial crystal and, in common with others, exhibits conical refraction (q.v.). (See LIGHT.)
